MasterCard Gives Free Wi-Fi For UK Visitors; Mobile App From Credit & Payment Co. Gets You Connected To HotSpot ‘Faster Than A Politican Spotting 20p’

MasterCard gives free wi-fi to visitors in the UK who has one of its cards at hand. As CNET notes, the company’s mobile app for the promo, MasterCard Priceless London Wifi App, will get users connected to a hotpsot “faster than a politician spotting 20p.” The latter statement is British for “very quickly,” writes the tech site.

MasterCard is offering the free internet via connection through the company The Cloud. The British internet service provider has wi-fi hotspots all over the UK, enabling users to have internet access in shops, bars, food places, and even train stations. The company has placed it in some high-traffic UK institutions like: WHSmith, Greggs , Pret, Caffé Nero and Eat, Marks & Spencers, JD Wetherspoon's, and PizzaExpress.

“The app The Cloud has developed allows our cardholders not only to benefit from free Wi-Fi when they travel to London but also access a wide range of offers and experiences available on the Priceless London program,” said Charles Clement-Cottuz, program manager, digital marketing Europe at MasterCard, said in a statement.

“This means that they will be able to surf the internet and access social media without running up huge costs,” writes Tech Week Europe, which also indicated that the free wi-fi offfer will connect visitors to around 22,000 hotspots in the country.

Through MasterCard’s promo, it appeals to the almost insatiable consumer demand to stay connected. Mashable reports, citing Expedia as source, that 94% of travelers bring a mobile device with them on vacation. It’s worth noting that using the device to get connected, particularly on apps and sites like Google Maps for direction, is a welcome convenience for travelers.

New York Times, in an April 2013 story, note that travelers are increasingly demanding wi-fi and they want it “preferably free and fast.” The increasing number of passengers wanting connection when traveling is also reflected in demands for wi-fi over the air and when traveling.
