American Horror Story Season 4 Gets Flak For Twisty; World Clown Association Airs Dismay Over The Character

One of the reasons people are tuning in to "American Horror Story" season 4 is the character of Twisty the clown. The silent murderer "with a touch of humanity" plays a big role in the unfolding of "Freak Show"'s story.

However, some people are not entirely impressed with how "American Horror Story" season 4 gives a picture of clowns. World Clown Association president Randy Christensen has spoken about their problem with the character of FX's latest horror offering.

In an interview with Vulture, Christensen said, "Technically, I don't even refer to horror clowns as clowns ... People need to realize that there are different entertainment venues. We understand there's a horror genre and some people really love being scared, but our goal is not to bring screams. Our goal is to bring laughs and smiles."

He added, "In the World Clown Association we take this seriously. We train people to create positive environments for their audiences. How do you approach people who might be afraid?... These horror clowns creep me out, and I'm a clown. Kids aren't equipped to deal with those images."

Ultimately, the World Clown Association stands firm that Twisty is not a clown but a "horror clown" and those two things are supposed to be taken differently.

Meanwhile, Jamie Lynch, the actor who plays Twisty in "American Horror Story" season 4, is delighted to play the character but feel like his character does taint the image of typical clowns.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Lynch shared, "I don't have any issues with clowns - I feel like I owe them an apology, in some ways."

But the actor also explained that he is delighted to play the character, saying, "It's great to play a character that is so starkly drwan, and it's really fun to be a bad guy. In this case I really like that Ryan and the writers have provided not only a really terrific, scary character, but also they provided a lot of humanity that you'll learn about as the season progresses."

If you're a fan of "horror clowns," catch the next episode of "American Horror Story" season 4 on Wednesday at 10 pm on FX.
