Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date Delayed As Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Moves Forward on Separate Team; CD Projekt Says Sci-Fi RPG Working Out Development

Cyberpunk 2077 release date delayed by production development issues rumors are flooding the net as CD Projekt RED developers are getting ready to release the upcoming The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Cyberpunk 2077 will be based on the Cyberpunk series of tabletop role-playing games.

Because of similar release dates, Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 were rumored to have almost simultaneous release dates. CD Projekt Red said that the Witcher 3 release is the priority and that Cyberpunk 2077 will come later. Cyberpunk 2077 is set to be released for PC in 2015 and "most probably" will arrive on 'next-gen' consoles.

CD Projekt Red describes the game as a "multi-thread, non-linear story designed for mature players" set in the sprawling metropolis of Night City and its surroundings.

CD Projekt Red is reportedly looking to make the game in first person which would differentiate it from the Witcher series.

According to reports The Cyberpunk 2077 release date was not affected by the Witcher 3 release date delay. CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwinski told Gamespot that Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 are being developed independently of each other. Separate development teams are working on each of the games.

"Cyberpunk 2077 is developed by a separate team within CD Projekt Red, so the development of Cyberpunk 2077 is not really affected," Iwinski said in the interview with Gamespot.

Marcin Iwinski admitted the teams behind Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 share some developers. "In order to ship a huge RPG we do use help of certain team members between teams. It works this way between Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3. ... We are working hard to deliver an outstanding RPG and rest assured, that all the learnings on The Witcher 3 are being applied to the Cyberpunk 2077 development," commented Iwinski.

Some of the issues have to do with piracy issues. Adrian Chmielarz, former People Can Fly co-owner and creative director of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt told attendees at an EGX gaming event "While the game will be DLC free so that users are not annoyed with our piracy protection system, it will also give them huge value for money. The game will easily offer over 100 hours of game play time out of which the team says that at least 50 hours will be dedicated to the single player campaign. The RPG game will have so much to offer in multiple areas and it has a map that is 35 times bigger than the previous version."
