Xiaomi Mi4 Review, Specs, Price: New Android Handset Deemed A ‘Bombshell In Smartphone War’; $400 Unit An iPhone 6 Killer?

Xiaomi Mi4 review, specs, price: The new Android-based handset Xiaomi Mi4 has been described as a “bombshell” and at $400, the flagship by the “Apple of China” sports premium specs that could possibly make it an iPhone 6 killer.

Tech in Asia described the Xiaomi Mi4 as a “bombshell in smartphone war” and though it was initially controversial on its launched, with critics noting its enormous similarities with the iPhone, the market seems to continue eating it up regardless. The very first flash sale of the Xiaomi Mi4 was sold out in a mere 37 seconds according to a forum post on MIUI.com.

The handset was launched on July 22, 2014 and was made available a week after. At the moment, it’s only available in China but with Xiaomi’s rapid expansion to other countries, it’s expected that it will be in international markets very soon.

“Xiaomi's Mi 4 offers almost everything you want in a high-end flagship smartphone -- beautiful design and snappy performance at a price that's just too good to pass up,” writes CNET in its bottomline or verdict of the Mi4.

Tech in Asia says that the Mi4 has a “great screen at 1080P” and a good build quality. Ars Technica notes that though the handset is “unoriginal,” it is “amazing.”

“Everything here is top notch: The best specs, fantastic build quality, a beautiful screen, a dirt cheap price, and software that, while different, works both aesthetically and functionally,” writes Ron Amadeo of Ars Technica.

Phone Arena in its spec sheet of the device notes seven pros and two cons for the unit. The pros being that it has extremely high pixel density screen (over 370 ppi), has big display, and provides fast mobile data support. The cons of the device for the gadget review and news site are lack of Micro SD support and battery is not user replaceable.

Xiaomi Mi4 bears great resemblance to the iPhone and critics have said that even the website design featuring the device is a page off from Apple’s book. But despite it’s copycat looks, the Xiaomi Mi4’s unbeatable and the premium specs, as well as its MIUI operating system (which bears great similarities with the iOS 8) makes it a winner to tech reviewers.
