HTC Desire Eye Review: The Android Smartphone That Will Definitely Bring Out The 'Selfie Lover' In You

Have you always wondered why millions of people have become selfie enthusiasts over the past few years? The answer to that question does not lie with the way they want to take pictures of themselves, and it definitely is not just about loving the way they look on camera while their arm is outstretched. 

The rise of the selfie generation is in part caused by the improved camera resolution for smartphones with front cameras. Surely, no one would want to take a blurry selfie picture of themselves using a VGA camera. 

HTC wanted to take that concept to the next level with its Desire Eye, the first ever smartphone to get a 13MP front shooter, and it is even paired with an LED flash.

Design

The Design of the Desire Eye is reminiscent to that of the HTC One M8, but the polycarbonate plastic body is a common alternative in the Desire family. In spite the inferior material, the Desire Eye still looks gorgeous and a sight to behold. The matte finish also helps the phone stay away from all those fingerprints. 

Display

The device packs a 5.2-inch display with Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, making it the first ever Desire to get such resolution. The side bezels are pretty slim, while the bottom portion of the smartphone has an extra space for the HTC logo. The selfie camera and its flash are located at the top middle of the device. 

Chipset

The HTC Desire Eye can be considered a flagship with its Snapdragon 801 chipset and 2GB of RAM. This pair has already been proved to take on almost any type of task seamlessly. Other devices which have this chipset and RAM combo include the Samsung Galaxy S5, the OnePlus One handset, and the HTC One M8. 

Camera

This is where the Desire Eye stands out of the competition. It boasts a 13MP camera on both its front and back, and both shooter have accompanying dual-LED flashes which reportedly provide better color toning during snapshots. The dual tone technology can be compared to what Apple uses in its iPhones.
