MAMA 2014: EXO Wins Best Asian Style Award, BTS, Block B & AOA Perform On The Red Carpet [VIDEO]


The 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) were held on December 3 at the Asia World Expo in Hong Kong. Th

e MAMA 2014 Red Carpet consisted of two thrilling hours of performances and award-show fashion.

Some of the stand outs in terms of fashion included IU, SISTAR, Block B, G-Dragon, Taeyang, WINNER, and EXO.

EXO were the recipients of the first award of the night, the Asian Style award. The Asian Style award recognized the style influence of idols through a SNS driven fan vote.

BTS, AOA, and Block B were part of the non-stop entertainment that was provided during the Red Carpet portion of the show.

G-Dragon who sometimes is not present on the Red Carpet for events was poised and enthusiastic. The crowd was incredibly excited to see G-Dragon and Taeyang.

The Award ceremony kicked off with travel footage of popular group BTS (Bangtan Boys) and their trip to Hong Kong for MAMA.

BTS thrilled Red Carpet viewers with their performance of the 2014 hit “Boy In Luv.”

The three hosts, who addressed audiences in Korean, Chinese, and English (find out the name of the hosts) discussed the most stylish idols who would be gracing the Red Carpet including INFINITE and EXO.

FNC Entertainment’s AOA were the some of the first artists to grace the Red Carpet, with the members clad in sexy, leather outfits.

Actress Kang Sora, who has starred in several hit dramas in 2014 including the office comedy “Misaeng” was next on the Red Carpet.

Next came the members of Block B, whose fashion was as eclectic as the sound of the group. Block maintained a black color palate with Zico rocking the strongest pop of color with a sparkling fuchsia tuxedo jacket. The hosts discussed Zico’s most recent release “Tough Cookie” then handed the microphone over to him for an impromptu freestyle. The members of Block B each discussed the possibility of their solo careers.

Next, was the fantasy couple of Han Groo (Han Guru) and Yeon Woo Jin from tvN romantic comedy “Marriage, Not Dating.” The fictitious couple embraced. Han Groo impressed the audience with her impeccable greeting in Chinese for the audience in Hong Kong.

Park Bo Young of “Werewolf Boy” was present on the Red Carpet, as one of the scheduled presenters.

This then led to the Chopstick Brothers who have had the viral Chinese hit “Little Apple” which was recently covered by the K-Pop group T-ARA.

Former Wonder Girls’ member Sunmi followed the Chopstick Brothers. Received critical acclaim and commercial success for her 2014 solo release “Full Moon.”

AOA then performed a visually stunning and sexy stage of their hits “Like A Cat” and “Mini Skirt.”

The upcoming performance for EXO was teased then leading Korean designers were introduced.

The crowd then went wild for the members of YG Entertainment’s rookie group WINNER. WINNER has become known for their high-fashion style which was exemplified through their promotions for their debut album “2014 S/S.”

Model turned actor Nam Joo Hyuk then took his turn on the Red Carpet. Taiwanese actor Mike He followed, proclaiming Big Bang’s “Fantastic Baby” and GD (G-Dragon) as his two favorite aspects of K-Pop.

SISTAR were stunning with their label mate Junggigo. Junggigo off-set the white evening gowns worn by the girl group with a tuxedo look.

Through SNS vote, EXO, INFINITE, and BTS were early leaders for the Best Asian Style Award.

“Temptation” actor Kwon Sang Woo then took to the Red Carpet, representing the style of Old Hollywood with a double-breasted, white tuxedo jacket.

Hong Kong artist Fred Cheng then performed the ballad “Light My Fire.” Fred Cheng was the 2013 champion of the Hong Kong music competition “The Voice of the Stars.”

IU translated her image of the Korea’s fairy with an ethereal cream dress on the Red Carpet. IU is nominated in numerous categories for MAMA following successful releases in 2013 and 2014 including her hit “The Red Shoes.”

The 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards will include a component of voting for the Best Asian Style Award. The Best Asian Style Award provides fans with the opportunity to select the idol or performer who has had the most impact on their lives through style. Voting for Best Asian Style could be conducted through SNS.

Kyung Soo Jin from “Plus Nine Boys” and “Secret Love Affair” was stunning in a floor length, rose lace gown.

Actor Kim Ji Hoon and actress Oh Yeon Seo entered the Red Carpet followed by Korean rocker Jung Joon Young. Jung Joon Young was sporting a significantly shorter haircut and was subdued for the awards.

Block B shook up the Red Carpet with the rock version of “Very Good” followed by the ragtime influenced track “Jackpot.”

The ceremony then teased a global stage for legendary artist Seo Taiji. Actor Lee Jong Hyuk made his Red Carpet appearance followed by Girl’s Day.

Hot new K-Drama star Ahn Jae Hyun of “My Love From The Stars” and “You’re All Surrounded” then made his appearance. He was followed by comedian Lee Guk Joo who has won over variety fans with her hilarious personality on “Roommate.” She paid homage to SISTAR with a sassy dance.

Next, INFINITE took to the Red Carpet. INFINITE were classically dressed in suited style. They were nominated for Best Dance Performance Male Group. INFINITE created an upset during MAMA 2013 when they defeated EXO for Best Male Group.

INFINITE was followed by the contestants from the competition show “Dancing 9.”

Girls’ Generation member Tiffany was stunning in a sheath dress which was a slight reinterpretation of traditional wear.

With only a half hour of the Red Carpet remaining, the members of EXO emerged. EXO drew resounding screams from the fans who were spectators of the Red Carpet, attesting to their star power. One particular fan was able to out-scream many of the others to show her support for Chan Yeol.

EXO was then followed by the third spoiler for MAMA’s highly anticipated performances. “Good Boy” from the Big Bang sub unit GD x Taeyang continues to rack up YouTube views and is a chart-topper. G-Dragon and Taeyang will perform for the first time as their new sub unit for MAMA.
