MAMA 2014: Big Bang's Taeyang Wins Best Male Artist & Best Vocal Performance Male Awards

The second and third hours of the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards presented some of the best collaborative stages. Key awards that were presented during the second and third hours included some of the biggest awards including Best Vocal Performance, Best Male Artist, and Best Female Artist.

Ailee was the recipient of the Best Vocal Performance Female award for “Singing Got Better.” She enthusiastically said, “Hong Kong, thank you!

Big Bang’s Taeyang was the recipient of the Best Vocal Performance Male for “Eyes, Nose, Lips.” Prior to the announcement of the award, the crowd cheered him on by chanting his name, helping to the predict him as the winner.

Taeyang was a big winner of the night, as he also received the coveted Best Male Artist award.

IU was the recipient of the Best Female Artist award.

CNBLUE were the recipients of the Best Band Performance Award for “Can’t Stop.” Their fellow FNC Artists AOA received the award in their absence.

INFINITE were then the recipients of the K-Pop Fan Choice Award, which they breathlessly accepted.

John Legend received the Favorite International Artist Award. 

Here are some highlights from the second and third hours of the MAMA ceremony.

Special stages marked the second hour and third hours of the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards. Tiffany of Girls’ Generation took the stage to introduce American R&B star John Legend. Before John Legend entered, she was joined by EXO’s Chen. Chen sang the John Legend hit “Green Light” and was joined on vocals by Tiffany. John Legend then came out onto the MAMA stage to perform “Green Light” and received the International Favorite Artist Award. He was thrilled to be at MAMA and followed “Green Light” with his hit “All of Me.”

The Chopstick Brothers who have risen to fame through their viral Chinese hit “Little Apple” took the stage to receive the Favorite Music in China award.

Comedians Lee Guk Joo and Jo Se Ho from the variety show “Roommate” were hilarious as they warmed up the crowd prior to presenting the Best OST award. Lee Guk Joo danced to Sunmi’s “Full Moon” and slowly approached Big Bang’s Taeyang. Jo Se Ho came in to finish the comedy routine by singing Taeyang’s hit “Eyes, Nose, Lips” incredibly off-key. The comedy duo then mimicked kissing to “My Destiny” from “My Love From The Stars.”

Jo Se Ho and Lee Guk Joo went on to present the award to Lyn for Best OST.

IU followed the Best OST presentation with an adorable stage of her hit “Friday.” She was joined on-stage by WINNER’s Mino.

Rock vocalist Eason Chan then performed.

Soyou and Junggigo kicked off a performance of “SOME.” They were joined by Bora, P.O, Nam Tae Hyun, Lee Joo Hyuk, and Hyolin. SISTAR then launched to hit 2014 hit “Touch My Body.” Big Bang’s Taeyang could be seen rocking out to the song.

Hong Kong director Eric Tsang and actress Park Bo Young then took to the MAMA stage to present the Best Vocal Performance award.

BTS and Block B then took the stage for a special performance called Fight of the Century.
Both groups are leaders in their incorporation of hip-hop and pop.

They started off with a hip-hop dance off which incorporated by thee Mark Ronson hit “Uptown Funk.” Zico took the stage with his solo release “Tough Cookie” while BTS’ Rap Monster performed the cypher “RM.” BTS then collectively performed “Danger.” Block B followed BTS with “HER.” BTS and Block B came together to perform a solid rendition of the Black Eyed Pea’s hip-hop influenced dance hit “Let’s Get It Started.”

“Dad, Where Are You Going?” star and actor Lee Jong Hyuk presented the Best Band Performance award to FNC Entertainment’s AOA on behalf of CNBLUE. CNBLUE were the recipients of the Best Band Performance award for their 2014 release “Can’t Stop.”

Hong Kong actor and singer Alan Tam followed with a greeting for their audience members, particularly those who were visiting from outside of Hong Kong.

*INFINITE performed a powerful stage of “Last Romeo” and “Back.” They stirred up the audience with their white suited look. The program then segued to a scene from the tvN hit “Misaeng” which featured Kang Ha Neul and Kang Sora in a convenience store. Kang Sora then came out with songwriter and Super Star K judge Yoon Jong Shin to present the Best Female Artist award.

American actor Forest Whitaker then implored viewers to make a difference for girl’s education. Lee Seung Chul reinforced this message through a stirring perform
