Lady Gaga Loses Number of Likes From Facebook Crackdown

You might have noticed that Facebook pages are losing a lot of fans recently.

Facebook began a crackdown on fake accounts and profiles, which resulted in a decrease in 'likes' from these fake accounts and profiles. This was a part of planned site improvements that were announced last month.

On August 31st, Facebook had annouced plans for improvements to its "site integrity systems," which included a lot of automated efforts to find and delete fake accounts or likes that had either been illicitly sold or gained by shady means.

Their plans included a statement that said, "A Like that doesn't come from someone truly interested in connecting with a Page benefits no one. When a Page and fan connect on Facebook, we want to ensure that connection involves a real person interested in hearing from a specific Page and engaging with that brand's content."

For example, Zynga's Texas HoldEm Poker page lost almost 200,000 likes since Tuesday, according to Facebook's PageData analytics. Lady GaGa also lost about 66,000 likes in that same time span and "The Simpsons" lost approximately 21,000.

Facebook said that pages which have been abiding by its rules should expect no more than a 1% decrease in Likes. Even Zynga's large decrease, which seems like a very significant number, is only 0.3% of its more than 65 million likes for its poker page.
