Marilyn Monroe’s Items Sold In An Auction, Love Letter From Ex Husband Di Maggio Fetched $78,125

An undisclosed buyer bought a love letter written by the former husband of Marilyn Monroe for $78,125.

CNN Money quoted an excerpt from the sold letter, "Dear Baby - Don't know what you're [sic] thoughts are about me, but I can tell you I love you seriously, way deep in my heart, irregardless of anything."

The article said that the letter was sent to Monroe after the divorce, the letter seemed to woo back the actress.

Marilyn is an icon who remains a bit mysterious and there has never, ever been anyone like her," auction company president Darren Julien said on Sunday through a spokeswoman. "Items that were important to her career and life are getting harder and harder to find," the New York Daily News quoted as saying about the auction.

At the age of 36 Monroe died of drug overdose in 1962. She had three husbands which also include playwright Arthur Miller.

Miller's letter to Monroe was also auctioned and fetched $43,3750.

Monroe's silk overcoat also was part of the auction and was sold for $175,000 and the cocktail dress and opera coat at $93,750.

According to a You Tube video clip of her memorial, the popular sex symbol was interred on Aug. 8, 1962 in Los Angeles. It was DiMaggio who took care of the funeral arrangements and attended by close family and friends.

Marlon Brando was there to deliver a eulogy where he was quoted as saying, "In her eyes, and in mine, her career was just beginning.... She had a luminous quality. A combination of wistfulness, radiance, and yearning that set her apart and made everyone wish to be part of it - to share in the childish naivete which was at once so shy and yet so vibrant."
