Affordable Fashion: IU's H&M Dress From The 2014 Melon Music Awards

After actress Kang So Ra made headlines with her affordable $30 H&M dress in the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards, a new actress is stepping into the spotlight for her similar fashion choice. On November 12, solo artist and Pretty Man actress IU also wore an H&M dress when she walked the red carpet for the Melon Music Awards. It appears she was the first trend setter of simple, thrifty red carpet looks.

IU wore an ankle-length dress that is only $24.95 and can be bought from H&M's online store. The dress is black and has a floral pattern of red, white and pink roses. The sleeveless, chiffon piece has a cut-out detail in the midriff that exposes a small amount of skin. The skirt is sheer but comes with a modest second covering underneath.

IU's dress had some slight modifications done before its red carpet debut. The front portion of the skirt was cut, exposing her legs, and a black lace layer was sewn into the midriff section to show less skin. To finish her look, IU wore red velvet pumps and a glittering, silver clutch.

When reached for comment about this new style trend, an H&M represented told leading newspaper DongA, "We are currently holding sponsorship programs, focusing much on top celebrities such as Kang So Ra, IU, and Lee Hyori. Current celebrities are looking for sponsors that coincide more with their style and preference than the prices of the product."

The dress can be seen below in greater detail, along with product details and directions on where to buy it. The piece's ethereal silhouette makes it a functional, day or night must-have.
