The "Suicide Squad" cast has finally been confirmed and some of the choices were highly applauded. There weren't a lot of surprises but whenever there is a new casting rumor confirmed, the criticism is sure to follow.

It may not be a stretch to say that Jared Leto has big shoes to fill as the Joker, but fresh off an Academy Award win, few would question his ability to portray an iconic villain. Margot Robbie is also expected to play Harley Quinn well..her support role in "The Wolf of Wall Street" was commendable.

However, there is an intriguing choice that dropped jaws all over the comic book movie world. From What Culture:

"There is one strange outlier in all this, however, which sticks out like a sore thumb; Will Smith as Deadshot.

Seriously, that's not a joke addition or anything - Will Smith has actually been cast as the famed marksman and Batman villain in DC's anti-hero team-up. The same Will Smith who hasn't been culturally relevant for ten years, yet still believes himself to be one of the biggest, important and most revered actors in Hollywood. You can be forgiven for heavily raised eyebrows."

Raised eyebrows is definitely the knee jerk reaction. What exactly makes Will Smith a bad "Deadshot?"

"Ignoring how out of nowhere the casting seems, it also posits the likely weak link in Suicide Squad's chain. Since Independence Day Smith has had a specific style that has dominated his movies (in certain cases even leading to drastic re-writes), meaning he's never playing far from Will Smith. And, as evidenced in After Earth, he actually doesn't have the ability to play anything else. So either way it's done, Deadshot is a lost cause."

Deadshot's character has layers as opposed to "Deadpool" who is more of an irreverent "merc with a mouth." Deadshot has a daughter to whom he dedicates his villainy-or his attempt to rise above it. Casting Will Smith may apparently trivialize that detail.
