It has been heavily rumored that Matt Damon is going to reprise his role as Jason Bourne in the upcoming "Bourne 5" movie scheduled for release on 2016 and finally, a confirmation has been given by star himself.

Ben Affleck (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) who's known to be a close friend of Damon spilled the beans on E! News during a red carpet appearance.

Affleck may have accidentally slipped when they were asked if they are fond of mocking each other if the other is in better shape saying,

"Well, he's going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just completely lost any resemblance of physical fitness. So --" Affleck announced.

Matt Damon was asked to clarify is he's indeed returning as Jason Bourne, he giddily answered, "Yes, next year."

"It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out but (Director) Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes," the "Elysium" actor added.

However, the "Elysium" actor failed to mention if the "Bourne" movie he is returning from will include Jeremy Renner or if it will be a completely different film Renner's planned sequel. 

On his interview with Crave Online, to promote his new drama "Kill the Messenger," Jeremy Renner shared his thoughts on having Aaron Cross and Jason Bourne teaming up in one film.

"For me, in my head? I think it's a little bit of both. I think you pit them against each other, and then they go together against the bad guy. We realize that we're not the enemy. I mean, I think a thousand people can come up with that scenario, but I think you do both. I think that could be really interesting. Mind you, there have been NO talks, whatsoever, creatively about that. So that's just the fanboy in me, I suppose. [Laughs.]"

Before Matt Damon confirmed the rumors that he is indeed reprising his role as Jason Bourne Deadline exclusively reported the good news. It has also been reported that the actor is just waiting for Universal Pictures and director Paul Greengrass to finalize the deal.

Basically, Universal Pictures is trying to build a completely different franchise than that of Renner's character, they are reportedly trying to continue with Bourne's journey that doesn't include Aaron Cross in it.

Word has it that "Bourne" 5 movie will be about Matt Damon's character one that is supposed to have an earlier release date than Renner's sequel.
