A new remake for a Super Mario Bros. has been confirmed to hit the big screen and it will no longer be a live-action film but rather an animated movie. The report has been confirmed by Sony Pictures Animation, who got rights from Nintendo to take the popular video game in the big screen.

Buzzfeed confirmed the reports after leaked emails from Sony head Amy Pascal and producer Avi Arad swept the internet confirming the Nintendo game be on the hands of Sony Pictures. The email thread was quoted that the done deal was "just the beginning."

"I am the proud father of mario the animated film [sic]," Arad was quoted after the email sent Oct. 23, 2014 with a subject line of "Mario" was seen on the leaked emails.

The last time people saw Mario on the big screen was in 1993 after tthe live-action film starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo played the brotherly plumbers that didn't had a positive reception among fans. This time, Nintendo is giving their own franchise another chance in the big screen after their name allegedly got hurt before following a huge flop in the blockbuster.

Reports suggest that the Super Mario Bros. movie would be approached differently and that they are hopeful and positive that the animated feature would be a success.

"There have been a lot of cases where we've been approached by different people with lots of different ideas," Super Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto said on the Buzzfeed report with regards of them working with Hollywood. "And I don't want to say that it's impossible, [but] I don't want you to get the impression that we are in the middle of making a movie or something. ... But we always have to take into account the fact that game entertainment and movie entertainment is quite different - one being passive, and one being active. Those don't always necessarily mix."
