Stephen Collins Interview: The '7th Heaven' Actor Blames His 'Need For Attention' For Exposing Himself To Young Girls As He Insists He Is Not A Pedophile!

Actor, writer, director and musician, Stephen Collins has admitted that he exposed himself to young girls out of a desperate "need for attention," however the '7th Heaven' star denies being a pedophile.

During a taped sit-down with Katie Couric for 20/20, the actor blamed three separate incidents of child molestation on 'exhibitionist urges' sticking to his claims that he is not a pedophile and has moved on from the 'unspeakable' acts after 20 years of therapy and faith.

Collins told Katie, "I do not fit either the clinical or dictionary definition of it," after Couric straight forwardly asked if he was a child molester.

"A pedophile is someone who is mainly or wholly attracted to children. I'm not. I had a distortion in my thinking that, where I acted out in those ways," Collins said in a video posted on YahooNews.com

He added, "But I'm absolutely not attracted, physically or sexually, attracted to children. I'm just not."

Describing an encounter with one girl in 1973, Collins said he knew he had done something, "unthinkably wrong" that he couldn't take back. He added, "I took her hand and moved it in such a way that she was touching me inappropriately."

The actor also confessed to exposing himself to a teenage girl in 1982 and another in 1994.

Collins' estranged wife, Faye Grant reportedly outed him after secretly recording him discussing the incident during a therapy session two years ago. The later leaked the tapes to TMZ in October. During his interview with Couric, he said he had discussed about his perverted behavior with a therapist who told him that if he was a sexual predator, he would have acted again and again.

"They were terrible and they regret them deeply, but I don't look at young women that way, and I never did," he said.

"Those actions, I think, had more to do with that kind of, distortion in my thinking and need for attention."

When Couric asked Collins how he would describe his "particular pathology," the 67-year-old TV dad said, "I think I'm someone who gave in several times to exhibitionistic urges, somebody who had big boundary issues, as a young man, and beyond that, to an extent."

He even revealed in the interview that a woman exposed herself to him when he just 10. The incident continued for five years but he stopped blaming the woman for his behavior, Collins said.

According to Yahoo News, he said, "I did these....I did them. I'm not saying, you know, this woman did this, and therefore I did it."
