Former Florida Gators Quarterback Tim Tebow Expands Foundation In The Philippines; CURE Hospital Starts Operations For Children With Orthopedic Needs

On December 10, former Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow announced that the Cure Hospital built in Davao City, Philippines, as part of his foundation expansion, is already open and ready for operations.

The five-story facility, which almost got hit by the country's most destructive typhoon, Haiyan, already received its official operating license and is already open to cater to the needs of children with severe orthopedic problems and those who are financially incapable to afford treatments and simple procedures.

However, the official grand opening for Tim Tebow's CURE hospital will be held in spring next year, according to the statement released by the foundation.

The hospital features 30-bed facility with three operating rooms specialized to cater surgical operations for pediatric orthopedic. In present time, there are already 54 staff members in charge of the operations while, 17 of the 30 beds are already made available for use.

To those who are not yet aware, Former Florida Gators quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow was raised and born in the Philippines before coming to the U.S.

"I was born in the Philippines while my parents served as missionaries, and I have always had a great love and passion for the Filipino people," Tebow explained. "It is so exciting to be able to provide healing and care for these incredibly deserving children halfway around the world."

The CURE Hospital took three years in development before its was completed in September of this year. The plans to expand Tim Tebow's foundation was first announced in 2011, at that moment, Tebow was playing his second season with the Denver Broncos. The ground breaking only took place in January of 2012.

According to Tim Tebow Foundation Organization, The fully equipped hospital will serve kids with special needs in orthopedic such as clubfoot, cleft palate, bowed legs and many others limb problems.

"These are simple procedures we take for granted in the US," Erik Dellenback, the executive director of the Tim Tebow Foundation, said. "The reality is that we hope to show people in the Philippines that there is faith, hope and love out there. We want to show them that the Western world cares about them and that they're not a deserted nation."

While, Dale Brantner, President and CEO of CURE International says, The opening of the Tebow CURE Hospital is the fulfillment of long-held dreams and many prayers. We are excited to partner with the Tim Tebow Foundation to bring healing to the children of the Philippines in Jesus' name."

This is not the first time that Tim Tebow has given aid to the Filipino people. The former Florida Gators quarterback used to preach and support evangelist in the country.
