American professional golfer, Tiger Woods, who is among the most successful golfers of all time, is selling his Swedish villa and the private 62-acre island in Lake Mälarenit that it sits on for a staggering price of $7.1 million after his divorce with former model, Elin Nordegren.

In November 2003, Tiger Woods became engaged to a Swedish former model, Elin Nordegren, the two were introduced during The Open Championship in 2001 by golfer Jesper Parnevik. Nordegren, daughter of former minister of migration Barbro Holmberg and radio journalist Thomas Nordegre and Woods got married on October 5, 2004 at the Sandy Lane resort in Barbados.

Woods divorced Elin Nordegren in 2010, but he has only now decided to sell his private island near Stockholm.  According to The Los Angeles Times, the luxury property has an asking price of $7.1 million.

The 62-acre island in Lake Mälaren, featuring hunting lodge, golf holes, stables, landing strip for propeller plans and private quay, once homed Woods and ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

The broker handling the sale, Sabine Rollinger of Vladi Private Islands made no secret of Wood's motivation to sell.

"This island was owned by Tiger Woods but after his divorce he doesn't need an island in Sweden any more."

Talking about the property to Mercury Press Agency, Rollinger stated,

"This is a unique, exclusive private island with total privacy. It includes a private harbor, untouched woods, beautiful lush parks, open fields, striking lake views and a tastefully designed main residence, a mini-mansion...This island is also unique due to its central location as the Swedish capital is only about an hour away by boat or car, and from there you have swift access to the Stockholm archipelago."

In May 2014, Nordegren told People that she and Woods live a 25-minutes' drive apart in Southern Florida and share custody of their two children, Sam, their daughter and son Charlie. At that time, the children were 6 and 5 respectively.

"I have moved on and I am in a good place. My relationship with Tiger is centered around our children and we are doing really good - we really are - and I am so happy that is the case. He is a great father."

The two were involved in a public divorce due to Woods' infedility. 

Woods ex-wife Nordegren gave the interview to People when she finally received her psychology degree after nine years of chipping away at courses. Nordegren graduated with a 3.96 GPA and during a commencement address at Rollins College, her institution, she made a silent reference to her marriage to Woods in her speech.

"Education has been the only consistent part of my life the last nine years. And it has offered me comfort. Education is one thing that no one can take away from you."

The island situated in Sweden's Lake Mälaren features a unique historical artifact, an 11th century Viking stronghold. However, the property is listed as unfurnished. The now-ex couple sold their home in Windermere, Florida after their divorce. The house was bought by another golf star, left-hander Bubba Watson.

Woods, who has been one of the highest-paid athletes in the world for several years, career earnings surpassed the $1.3 billion mark. ESPN quoted a Golf Digest report stating that 88% of those earning were for endorsements. Back in 2013, Woods made $12 million playing golf and a mind-boggling $71 million in endorsements.
