Black Sails Season 2 Releases New Foreboding Trailer [VIDEO]

Black Sails was a big show that made a little splash in this past year. Now Starz has already greenlit season 3 before season 2 has even aired. Billed as 'Not your parent's pirate show' Black Sails has all the titular sex and violence one may expect, but manages to build real and compelling characters that make this a show truly worth watching. Season 1 ended on a massive cliff hanger, here is what to expect for season 2.

There is a new trailer from the show, which you can watch below. Comic Book Resources reports, "The promo indicates hard times ahead both on the high seas and on land as ominous, piano-driven music plays over the solemn - and at times violent - footage from the new season. "Everyone is a monster to someone," the voiceover states as the footage transitions from bloody battles and executions to funerals. The Golden Age of Piracy was not an easy time to be alive.

Toby Stephens, Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Zach McGowan, Toby Schmitz, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Sean Cameron Michael and Louise Barnes are all set to return to the open water when Black Sails returns Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT."

TV Line reports, "The new season, premiering Jan. 24 at 9/8c, will "expand out geographically," star Hannah New revealed during a panel for the show at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena on Friday.

Meanwhile, flashbacks to 15 years earlier will start "unpeeling" the character of Captain Flint and "how he became the pirate that he now is," his portrayer Toby Stephens previewed. "We get to know a lot more about him and what is driving him to do these quite extreme things. He's perhaps a lot more complicated than you think at the end of [Season] 1."

Deadline reports, "Toby Stevens, who plays Flint in the TV series, said the new season will "explain how he became the pirate he now is" and that we will "get to know a lot more about him and what is motivating him to do these quite extreme things." He also warned that "perhaps he's a lot more complicated than you think at the end of Season 1."

On the bright side, Black Sails EP Jon Steinberg said Season 2 therefore will be "bigger, louder, deeper" and that we will get to see a "bigger world" on the show, including London. There also will be a humdinger of a season finale that Steinberg promises won't feel like the first one."
