Ghostbusters 3 Cast: Director Paul Feig Announced The All-Female Cast For Movie On Twitter As The Release Date For Part 3 Is Set On July 2016!

Good news Ghostbusters fans as the official cast members for Ghostbusters 3 have been revealed.

According to reporst from TheStar.com, director Paul Feig tweeted an uncaptioned photo on Tuesday showing Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and "Saturday Night Live" cast members, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon as the new Ghostbusters.

During the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, Bill Murray, who portrayed the role of Dr. Peter Venkman in the original Ghostbusters, told TheStar's Peter Howell that he was in support of an all-female cast. Wiig and McCarthy, in fact were among the women he said he'd like to see in the new Ghostbusters.

Melissa McCarthy, who had not been approached for the film at the time, told TheStar.com that she was all for it.

"I think that somebody is really trying to do it, but nobody has talked to me about it," McCarthy said, "listen, if the people I think are doing it are doing it, I must never question them."

Feig spoke to Fairfax Media in Beverly Hills last weekend about his plans for the much-awaited film.

"It's a reboot, not a sequel," he said. "We're trying to start our own franchise with this."

The foursome will be having their proton packs once employed by the original Ghostbusters cast including the late Harold Ramis. According to reports from NYDailyNews.com, the original director for the third installment, Ivan Reitman dropped out after his friend Ramis' death last year. In the wake of Ramis' passing away and Murray vowing not to return, the script for "Ghostbusters III" had to be severely rewritten, but this created an opening for Feig's take on the movie.

Feig told Entertainment Weekly in October, "My favorite thing to do is work with funny women," Feig added, "I was like, what if it was an all-female cast? If they were all women? Suddenly, my mind kind of exploded: that would be really fun."

He admits tha rebuilding the beloved franchise is a risky plan; in fact, he says he frequently comes across disapproval from a fan base.

"That's how a lot of fans are. There are a lot of haters. I get bombarded every day on Twitter. It's kind of a drag but I get it. It's kind of a sacred thing that people grew up with."

Rebel Wilson, Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence were rumored to have been associated with the film over the years. Following Tuesday's casting announcement, the female-led Ghostbusters reboot has been given an official release date of July 22, 2016.
