Raspberry Pi 2 Model B Six Times More Powerful Than Prior Version: Tiny $35 Computer Unveiled

Technology designer Eben Upton has released the new Raspberry Pi 2 Model B computer, which is said to be six times more powerful that the model's prior version.

The tiny computer is priced at $35 and has been designed for the purposes of making technology available to a mass consumer audience.

"This means this is really a PC now," Upton told BBC News

"You can do most of the things with this that you can do with a PC. You can surf the web, you can watch videos, you can play games like Minecraft. But we also bundle it with the tools that children need in order to learn how to program."

Among the two major changes made to the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B include a new central processing unit (CPU) that is quad-core rather than single core and a new board that features one gigabyte of random access memory (RAM). The new CPU grants users extra computing power required for larger programs while the new RAM provides double the amount that was necessary in the prior version.

Although the Raspberry Pi 2 currently runs on operating systems based on Linux, the tiny $35 device is said to include Microsoft capabilities in the future.

Upton revealed during a interview that the company is selling about 200,000 models a month.
