The popularity of Pope Francis is reportedly one that the Catholic Church has never experienced before with its previous pontiffs.

The People's Pope has gained supporters from all walks of life, in fact the rich and the famous that normally doesn't care about the previous Popes expressed their support for Francis.

Pop icon, Madonna, is the most recent celebrity who has expressed her delight in Pope Francis.

"I've been ex-communicated by the Catholic Church a few times. But I also feel like this new pope is kind of groovy, and I think we might be able to get together and have a chat about sex," the 56-year-old musician said.

Top selling British singer, Elton John, on the other hand, said that the Pope's humanity excites him.

"He's excited me so much by his humanity and taking everything down to the humility of faith...it's all basically about love and taking everybody in inclusiveness," John told Sky News via Yahoo News.

Adding, "He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the Church should be about."

Punk rockstar and poet Patti Smith is also amongst the long list of celebrities who have expressed her support to Pope Francis.

Smith reportedly went to St. Peter's Square twice to shake hands with the Pontiff. In one of her gigs Patti told the audience that Pope Francis "was very interesting" and that she liked him "a lot."

Pope Francis did not only captured musicians' heart he was also able to gain support from Hollywood actors.

Russell Crowe, who confessed that he's not even a Catholic, said that the current Pope is changing the tone of the way you regard the Pope," said Crowe, "and I think it is a magnificent thing. I was very privileged and humbled to be in that environment."

"The Lord of the Rings" trilogy star Viggo Mortensen, reportedly came in Pope Francis' defense when the Pontiff was said to be complicit to Argentina's "Dirty War."

"People who knew him well - human rights activists, including the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1980, and also a woman judge who in 1973 was kicked out of the country - people who have ... every reason to speak against him, have come out staunchly defending him," Mortensen said.

Comedian Chris Rock even called Pope Francis "the greatest man alive."

While, veteran actress turned activist, Jane Fonda, took to Twitter to express her support for the Pope.

"Gotta love new Pope," she wrote. "He cares about poor, hates dogma. Unlike US Congress. Cutting $40 bil from food stamps!! Uh Oh."

Reality star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi also showed her support to Pope Francis telling her 6.95 million followers, "Yay for Pope Bergoglio!! He's adorable."

Rupert Murdoch, the highly influential media mogul also expressed her support to the Catholic Pontiff.

"Pope Francis setting great example in humility and thought provoking open thinking. Really refreshing," he posted on Twitter.
