The director of "Face of an Angel," which stars Cara Delevingne, has issued some disclaimer about the film being a factual depiction of Amanda Knox's murder trial, or the life of murdered British student Meredith Kercher.

According to Independent, Michael Winterbottom has been saying to everybody who cares to listen that "Face of an Angel" is not about the Amanda Knox murder trial.

The director also met with the Kercher family, particularly Meredith's brother Lyle, and showed him the film.

"One of the things that I saw at the start was how the Kercher family had not got involved in the media circus," he said. "They went to Italy to make sure Meredith wasn't forgotten. For me the film is about this - why do you forget girls that are the victims in a case? We showed him the film and we thought it was a film that served her memory and he agreed, so we added the dedication at the end."

In the film, the closest approximation to Meredith Kercher is Melanie, played by "The Fast & the Furious" star Michelle Rodriguez's ex-girlfriend Cara Delevingne.

Melanie is the life that Meredith Kercher is supposed to have had she not been brutally killed.

"We try not to borrow from the specifics from Meredith's life," Michael Winterbottom said. "But the film is about the father and the family's love for Elizabeth who is absent and about Daniel's character's love for his daughter, who is absent. Cara/Melanie is the one who is there, she represents, or embodies certain qualities - optimism, joy in life, the spirit of happiness and energy, all the things that these people have lost because of absence."

The appeal in Amanda Knox's murder trial is still being deliberated after the student was convicted to 28 years for the death of Meredith Kercher. Her ex-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, was sentenced to 25 years.
