Ashley Wagner Talks Her Triple Lutz Edge Before 2015 World Figure Skating Championships: 'I Am Totally Capable Of Doing It'

After winning the 2015 US Figure Skating Championships by a landslide, Ashley Wagner is well aware of the discussions on her areas of weakness.

Recently, Ashley Wagner spoke to icenetwork as the 2015 World Figure Skating Championships approaches, where she addressed some of the elements she plans to work on before the competition.

"I'm always very well aware of what I put out and where I stack up against everyone, and I know that when it comes to my lutzes, [the technical panel] is not going to be so forgiving at worlds," said Wagner.

"For me, my main focus at worlds is to get a solid, solid outside-edge Lutz. I think I am totally capable of doing it. It's more of a nervous habit right now, to flatten out the edge (on take-off)."

Shortly after Nationals, many observers, including The Skating Lesson, questioned the calls on Wagner's triple lutz jumps.

"It's questionable," said former World Junior Champion Jenny Kirk. "It worked in her favor here, hopefully it'll work in her favor at Worlds, but I didn't think the call in the short program on that combination was accurate."

But in addition to working on her lutz, Wagner also has plans to improve other areas of her skating prior to Worlds.

"I've been giving away way too many points on my spins this season, I'm well aware," she said. "Those are the easiest points to get. My coaching team has it down. It's up to me to practice them and put in the work, so I know what three revolutions (per spin position) feels like, rather than two and a quarter or something like that."
