Mick Schumacher is trying to continue the legacy of the seven-time F1 racing champ as Michael Schumacher's son inked a racing contract with Van Amersfoort.

The Dutch team confirmed in a statement sent to NBC News on Monday that said, "We have seen his skills in testing and we are looking forward to a successful season."

Rob Niessink, Van Amersfoort chief executive, told NBC that they have been watching Michael Schumacher's son for quite some time now and watching Mick Schumacher race only strengthened their resolve to give him a racing contract.

"Mick is very excited about this new challenge, it is a next big step in his racing career," Niessink said.

Mick Schumacher's first professional debut is expected to be at the ADAC Formula 4 class, which is a category reserved for young drivers with extensive background in karting. Niessink said that Michael Schumacher's son will face his peers and older drivers in cars which frequently breach speeds of 136 miles per hour.

Mick Schumacher finished as runner-up in the recent FIA KF Junior World Championships in Essay, France late last year. He only trailed British Enaam Ahmed, said Yahoo Sport.

Immediately after his good finish, Mick Schumacher is already setting his eyes on a bigger goal.

"Of course I am proud of such an important result but it is also clear that it is my goal to be world champion," he said. "This is only the beginning of my career."

Nevertheless, Michael Schumacher's son is very much aware of the pressure that his name brings, which even prompted him during the early part of his career to carry his mother's maiden name when racing. One thing going for him, according to Bleacher Report, is that he won't have any problem getting sponsors considering his pedigree.
