'Wolverine 3' Movie Casting News Update: Star Trek Captain Patrick Stewart May Put In An Appearance In New ‘Wolverine’ Movie

'Wolverine 3' Movie Casting News Update: Hugh Jackman's Wolverine may get an assist from Star Trek's Captain Picard, Patrick Stewart.

Sir Patrick Stewart is rumored to play a guest role in the next "Wolverine" solo film. The next Wolverine will be the third in the line of upcoming "X-Men" movies after "Apocalypse" and "Deadpool."

"What I'm very excited about is that we have been talking about a Wolverine movie, which would team Hugh Jackman and myself together," Stewart told Oregon Live. "Wolverine and Professor Xavier - that would be a very different sort of X-Men from the four movies that I've already done," Stewart added.

According to Variety, the next movie in the solo "Wolverine" franchise begins production early next year. According to director James Mangold, Hugh Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine. Jackman will also play Wolverine in "X-Men: Apocalypse," which is set for a May release.

CinemaBlend reported that "Wolverine 3" won't be set anywhere near the older "Wolverine" and "X-Men."

"It does draw on some comic book stuff - there are some things. But in typical fashion, instead of... one main one [there will be] a few bits here and there, and then opening it up," Jackman told CinemaBlend.

Jackman said he'd be happy to bring Stewart to the X-Men universe.

"That relationship is key, it's one of the keys. It was the key in the beginning and I think there's a long way to go," Jackman told CinemaBlend.

The screenplay for Wolverine 3 will be written by David James Kelly.

"Wolverine 3" is set to hit theaters in March 2017.
