G-Dragon hit a new milestone in social media popularity as his official account on Instagram (@xxxibgdrgn), a popular online photo sharing and social networking platform, reaching an impressive 4 million followers.

G-Dragon reportedly joined Instagram sometime in July 2012, and has posted more than 750 photos since creating his account, sometimes even uploading multiple ones in a single day. It is unusual for the week to go by without the idol updating his Instagram.

Fans congratulated the idol for hitting a new peak in Instagram followers.

"Yay! Congrats oppa," "You deserve it baby," and "One of a kind!" said fans when he posted the screenshot above.

This is the second social media accolade for the Big Bang leader and solo artist. Two weeks ago, he also reached 4 million followers on Twitter, another popular online social networking platform. He holds the distinction of being the third most followed Korean celebrity on Twitter.

Part of what is driving G-Dragon's soaring popularity on Instagram is his growing international stardom.

In this month alone, his solo world tour documentary film 'One Of A Kind 3D G-Dragon 2013 1st World Tour' opened in theaters in South America, its next stop after previously showing in Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. He also made a surprise appearance in the "REALiTi" music video by Canadian singer Grimes.

Another possible reason for his rise in Instagram followers is the nearing comeback for his idol group Big Bang. While it has been reported that YG Entertainment has decided to postpone Big Bang's return - along with other debuting groups as a sort of domino effect - media sites have been hyping up what would be the first album for the group in three years.
