Review: Vocalist NS Yoon-G Takes You Back To The Early Days Of Hip-Hop On 'Wifey' Featuring MC Mong [VIDEO]

There are few artists in K-pop that can be consistently counted on to bring the party as vocalist NS Yoon-G.

In a Korean pop industry dominated by sterilized, safe and saccharine pop princes and princesses, it's refreshing to see an artist that seems to be genuinely having fun and enjoying the ride.

Though it is unlikely to become a feminist anthem anytime soon, "Wifey," the latest NS Yoon-G single released on Friday, combines the rap music sound of the early 1980s and the slick R&B of the early 1990s with a result that is tons of fun.

Production team Duble Sidekick keeps the beat heavy and the instrumentation minimal, proving why their pop instincts have made them one of the most sought-out studio wizards on the continent.

Rapper MC Mong matches the throwback vibe that Duble Sidekick achieve with a rhyme style also recalling rap's more innocent days. Where a lot of rap stars would have played up the machismo angle in a song entitled "Wifey," Mong delivers a performance that is down-to-earth and heartfelt.

NS Yoon-G can turn on the diva chops on command, as she demonstrates in the Mariah Carey-esque intro of "Wifey." But what makes Yoon-G one of K-pop's most exciting artist is what happens next, as the song quickly shifts into a light and sunny vibe with a heavy backbeat--the perfect combination for the club or midday dance party with the dog or cat of your choice.

Whoever your preferred dance partner, NS Yoon-G gets the party started with the ease of a different kind of Prince.
