YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk states his thoughts about creating a different group.

Yang Hyun Suk stated, "If there is a block of coffee shops, I would not open up another coffee shop. I would open up a restaurant instead. Who would want to go to another coffee shop after just going to one? Idol groups are just like this. We need to make groups that are different and stand out in order to survive this music industry."

The Future of K-Pop? Only First and Second Stay Alive

Yang Hyun Suk stated that many people believe that K-Pop is the popular trend right now, however, that is untrue. Not all groups receive the support and popularity. Only first and second stay alive. Third place is a tough spot because they will not be able to last in the spot forever.

It is also not an era where we just earn money through music. Big Bang's concert made almost half of their money due to merchandise sales. Having great content is a big thing. Content will help further the group to an international level.

He also explained that creating interesting collaborations can also help in making a group known as well. Big Bang and Hyundai recently did a collaboration as well as 2NE1 and Jeil Industries.

Another factor that a CEO should have is taking risks. There were many incidents where idol members were hurt and accused of many things. However, through these issues, the members became stronger as a group.

Yang Hyun Suk also stated that he never drinks and drives or does drugs. He feels that if he has done those things, he has no right to tell his artists that they can't do them.

What is the method for YG's success?

All markets have gone global due to YouTube and social media networks. Out of the 60 or so groups that came out in 2012, there were none that did particularly well. It is because they set Korea as their goal. YG has had the world market as our goal since 1990. We like to put ourselves on the same level as foreign artists and dream big.

Psy's success is not due to K-Pop. Many people think that it is just luck or fate that he became famous. However, the real reason is because there was never a singer like him in the U.S. That is why if a someone follows Psy's footsteps, they will fail. YG is in a position of success as of right now. YG is able to make another hit soon. Groups such as Big Bang is someone to watch out for. There is no group like Big Bang in other parts of the world.
