FTISLAND's Lee Hongki Says He Stopped Drinking In Preparation For 'Pray' Single And 2015 Comeback

Grueling preparations and work schedules is nothing new to most K-pop fans who are aware when their favorite artist is looking a bit exhausted from working so hard.

But every now and again, it seems like one artists gives even more of themselves than they're already required to.

Recently FTISLAND's frontman Lee Hongki talked about his personal preparations for the release of their song "Pray" and the group's 2015 comeback. As Hongki is a big fan of casual drinking, radio hosts at the "Cultwo Show" as well as fans were surprised and impressed that Hongki announced he had quit drinking overall to preserve the spirit of their title track.

"The time for music shows has gone a lot faster these days.  In the case with 'Inkigayo,' when we made our comeback, we prepared since three in the morning and recorded at five.  I just didn't sleep at all and loosened my voice.  The song is so hard this time I feel I could die," explained Hongki.

"I actually even stopped drinking.  I stopped because I didn't think it would be good for the song."

Although this somewhat seems to imply that Hongki has a drinking problem, it's of note that drinking culture in South Korea is very prominent. According to VICE News, South Korea is the leading country in heavy spirits consumption and Soju actually outsells every other spirit worldwide.

With that knowledge it is definitely impressive that Hongki chose to refrain from drinking for the duration of the "Pray" promotions.

"Pray" is the title track for the fifth studio album from FTISLAND entitled "I Will." The album was released on March 20 and the group recently took the number one spot on music show Music Bank.

For those who are not familiar with the group, FTISLAND is comprised of members Choi Jonghoon, Lee Hongki, Lee Jaejin, Song Seunghyun, and Choi Minhwan. The band is approaching their ninth year together after debuting in 2007.
