Downton Abbey Season 6 Spoilers: Are The Crawleys Coming To America? New Twists To Affect Mr. Carson And Mrs. Hughes' Marriage Plans Revealed!
The Crawleys of "Downton Abbey" might be heading to America in the 6th season of the TV series.
Deadline reports that the show's executive producer, Gareth Neame has shared that he thinks a storyline with the Crawleys heading to the New World is very possible.
"I would absolutely love to bring the Crawleys to America," Neame said. "A couple of episodes in Newport or Boston or New York, it would be a complete thrill."
This, according to fans, could be a storyline worth exploring, given that two of the main characters of the show were shown at the season 5 Christmas special leaving for America.
Tom Branson and Lady Rose are both set to try their luck in the States. The actors who are playing then, Allen Leech ("The Imitation Game") and Lily James ("Cinderella") have left the series to focus on their budding movie careers. Fans were saddened at the departure of these two actors, but now are more hopeful that they would once again be present in the show's last season.
As for the budding love lives of sisters Lady Mary and Lady Edith, two brand new characters were introduced in the season 5 finale as possible romantic prospects.
Neame is keeping mum about the topic. "We must look forward to finding out," said the producer. In any case, a new love interest on Lady Edith's end is welcome news for fans after the devastation of Michael Gregson's disappearance.
Meanwhile, the other budding romance that has culminated in a proposal was that of Nr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes'. But as with most things that happen at Downton Abbey, the road to the altar might not be quite so smooth. In a potential "Downton Abbey" season 6 spoiler, Neame suggested that the pair might find it quite challenging to get married.
"We thought the world was ready for this partnership to take a step forward and I'm delighted with the excitement about their engagement," Neame shared. "No doubt married life - with all that entails - is on the horizon, although with the twists and turns of the events of life in Downton we don't yet know if they'll even make it down the aisle!"
