Mischa Barton Now: 'The O.C.' Actress Files Lawsuit Against Mother; Claims Her Mom Pocketed Most Of Her Earnings

Mischa Barton filed a lawsuit against her mother claiming that the latter drained the money she earned from her TV and movie career. The suit was filed by "The O.C." actress last Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2015 at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

In it, Mischa claimed that her mother, Nuala Barton, "committed a series of egregious acts to intentionally exploit and harm her own daughter." Mischa's mom had acted as her talent manager during the time she was regularly appearing in TV shows and movies.

According to Variety, the actress revealed that when she was 8 years old, she and her mother had an oral agreement that 10 percent of her earnings would go to her as management fee.

But, as the suit claimed, this agreement was not honored.

Among other allegations, Mischa said that Nuala Barton persuaded her to  purchase a Beverly Hills mansion worth more than $7 million, and "granted herself a one-half interest in the property and then encumbered it with two deeds of trust without providing documentation to her daughter."

Mischa also claimed that she did not receive the money she made from her work as actress, model and endorser. Her mother pocketed most of it herself.

In addition to this, the lawsuit claimed that Nuala Barton used her name and image to make money off of several side business. This included a handbag line, a fashion boutique, and other products, and kept all of the earnings.

Her mother also allegedly agreed to endorsements and deals involving Mischa, without asking her permission and approval beforehand.

People magazine reported that as early as 2013, the conflict between Mischa and her mother was already beginning. "Mischa was the bread and butter for her entire family," an insider told the magazine. "But her mom was running the show."

"And like any momager situation, Mischa is paying the rent," the source added. "They bought this huge house in California, which was probably a bit of a stretch for them."
