Millions of people can now take a sigh of relief after hearing the news that Filipino national Mary Jane Veloso was taken out of death row in Indonesia, where she was scheduled to be executed by a firing squad on Wednesday midnight (local time) on Nusakambangan prison island near Java.

In a report by Inquirer, eight other convicts, who were convicted with drug trafficking, were executed on schedule. Names of those executed were Indonesian national Zainal Abidin, Australian nationals Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, Brazilian Rodrigo Gularte, Nigerians Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise, Raheem Agbaje Salami and Okwudili Oyatanze, Ghanaian Martin Anderson.

Veloso was taken out of death row after her alleged illegal recruiter, who "planted" the said drugs in her luggage in 2010 that got her in prison for almost five years, gave herself up to the Philippine officials the day before the scheduled execution of the Filipina.

According to The Jakarta Post, Veloso has been given a temporary pardon after the president of the Philippines asked for a reconsideration of her case after the submission of her human trafficker, Maria Kristina Sergio. Mary Jane Veloso is needed to appear on court for a reconsideration of her case.

"The execution of Mary Jane has been postponed due to the request of the Philippines President [Benigno Aquino III] in relation to an alleged human trafficker who recently gave herself up in the Philippines," AGO spokesman Tony Spontana said.

It was however confirmed by the Attorney General's Office that the execution of the seven foreigners and one resident of the country were done.

"We've carried out the executions," an AGO officer said.

A Cilacap Police officer also claimed that everything went according to plan and even granted the two Australian national's final requests to have their body shipped to their hometown after the slaying.

"The executions went well, without any disruptions," he said.
