K-Pop Crossover: Psyche Corporation Singer Psyche Chimère On The Future Of Hallyu Fashion [EXCLUSIVE]

Psyche Corporation is a New York City-based concept band whose mythology claims the group is derived from a future where neural implants allow people to download dreams from the Internet.

The unit's musical style spans the genres of hip-hop, trip-hop, electro-rock and world music and their live shows are dazzling displays of the power of forward thinking.

Former Ladies of Steampunk model Psyche Chimère, the mastermind behind Psyche Corporation, came down to earth this week, to discuss the future of K-pop clothing, in an exclusive interview with KpopStarz.

While Chimère admitted that she doesn't follow the South Korean music scene too closely, she does go on "K-pop binges where I go check out all the popular music videos with the most interesting-looking outfits."

"For me, it's really the visuals that I find really satisfying to watch," Chimère said.

"I don't get as much visual satisfaction from watching Western music videos, usually. Also, the K-pop artists are often uncannily good at projecting a combination of cute and sassy that I like."

Her favorite acts are among the genre's most popular.

"I really enjoy BoA's videos and a lot of 2NE1's videos," Chimère said. "I also rather like what I've seen of Ailee."

The singer-songwriter has been involved in print and runway modeling for alternative fashion brands since 2009, working for designers like Berit New York, Karen Von Oppen (KVO Designs), Alex London, Kristin Costa, Hibernacula (K.M. Kotulak), Harmony Corbett, Copper Lune and Triple Fortune.

"It has truly been an incredible experience to observe the iconic fashions of the early 21st century first hand," Chimère said.

And while she is willing to riff on her take of the Korean modern fashion landscape, she is quick to add that she is not an expert.

"So far, my sampling has been limited, so when I talk about the K-pop style, I will be referring to what I've seen with respect to BoA, 2NE1, Wonder Girls, Girls' Generation, Ailee and Psy," Chimère said.

Though the sci-fi siren has a tendency to forget she is actually not from the future.

"I've noticed that although the K-pop idols enjoy a wide range of self-expression in their outfits," she said.

"Your average civilian does not have access to this level of self-expression, because I suppose mass-production of customizable 3-D outfit-printers is not yet available."
