'Torchwood' 'Doctor Who' Spin-Off Returns With Six New Radio Plays Episodes Starring John Barrowman As Captain Jack Harkness: 'Dr. Who' Season 9 Continues Filming

As "Doctor Who" season 9 continues filming, its short-lived spin-off "Torchwood" will be returning in the forms of radio plays featuring some familiar cast members.

According to actor John Barrowman on Sunday, his on-screen "Torchwood" persona Captain Jack Harkness will return in an all new series of audio dramas, which will investigate different members of Torchwood in six radio plays productions.

"What's great about 'Torchwood' is that it is as unstoppable as Captain Jack and just as persuasive," said producer James Goss according to Big Finish.

"'Torchwood' has been a ratings success on nearly every BBC channel, and it's one of the few UK series to translate to America. It's already been a series of iPlayer-topping audio plays, and we are thrilled to continue it. It's just so exciting to be starting off the range with a drama starring John Barrowman-he leapt at the chance to display a whole new side to Captain Jack."

"Torchwood" creator Russell T Davies also commented on the collaboration between the series and production company Big Finish for the series of radio plays.

"Torchwood has been to the Moon, and America, and the Himalayas, but now I think it's finally coming home, to the brilliance of Big Finish," said Davies according to Doctor Who TV.

So does this mean "Torchwood" might be coming back on the small screen?

"I'm full-time with 'Arrow' now," said Barrowman to Community Voices. "It's not a question of me not wanting to do it, it's a question of the BBC wanting to do it or others wanting to do 'Torchwood.' I know the fans are out there so I think they'd be silly not to. [The 'Arrow' producers have] always said, 'If you need to go and do a special, we'll let you go do it.'"
