In a recent interview with Empire magazine, "Absolutely Anything," writer Terry Jones, who penned the movie said that the idea for the movie was inspired by a short story by H.G. Wells. In the "The Man Who Could Work Miracles," a character named McWhirter Fortheringay, unexpectedly gets limitless power to make anything happen while he is in deep discussion about the possibility of miracles an English pub with some friends.

In the course of the wielding of his powers, he causes the earth to stop moving and makes everything go awry. But he is able to save the earth using his last two miracles.

The movie "Absolutely Anything," follows H.G. Wells' plot closely, but science fiction and comedic elements have been thrown into the mix. There are even zombies in the story, as a nod to Pegg's popular movie "Shaun of the Dead."
