'Ricki Lake Show' Canceled After One Season

"The Ricki Late Show" was canceled Monday after one season. The seasoned daytime talk show host first ran a successful show titled, "Ricki Lake" for 11 seasons from 1993-2004, calling it quits, in order to spend more time with her family.

Lake returned in September however due to a more competitive climate, targeting an older audience than her earlier show with topics of self-help and family issues. However, the new show was unable to find an audience. Her show ranked near the bottom with only 926,000 viewers on average.

"I am so proud of the shows we completed this season, sparking important conversations about everything from raising children to mental illness to suicide prevention to coming out," shared Lake in a statement.

"I will continue to be an active and passionate voice for subjects that are close to my heart through a variety of platforms."

Lake will return to documentary film making with business partner Abby Epstein, stating, "I am excited to create meaningful and provocative films similar to our 2007 project, 'The Business of Being Born.'"
