US Alpine Ski Racer Lindsey Vonn Airlifted After Severe Crash in Austria [VIDEO]

Lindsey Vonn, the world cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, was airlifted to a hospital in Austria after suffering a complex knee injury on Tuesday.

According to U.S. Ski Team Medical Director Kyle Wilkens, Vonn suffered a torn ACL and MCL in her right knee and a lateral tibial plateau fracture.

The accident occurred during the opening day super-G at the Alpine Ski World Championships. The video of the crash shows Vonn landing a jump as she loses her balance that causes her to slide off course and eventually hit a gate.

According to hospital spokesman her injuries are not life-threatening. The U.S. team's website reports that Vonn will be out for the remainder of the season, but is expected to return for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Vonn was coming back after a brief hiatus due to intestinal illness at which point she refrained from racing for almost a month.
