The new breed of S6 has been huge in the smartphone market since its release, with the upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, the specs and features of the phone have impressed a lot of techies. See what the upcoming smartphone has to offer.

In a report by GSM Arena, the smartphone, which is expected to be released this month, carries specs that could give an "edge" over the S6 (pun intended).

With a more stable and sturdier built, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active has an IP68 and MIL-STD-810G certification, which provides protection from salt, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock, with dust and water resistant capabilities up to 1.5 meter and 30 minutes.

For its display, the phone has a 5.1-inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen that has support for up to 1440 x 2560 pixels. Overall, the phone is also protected by the latest Corning Gorilla glass 4 to add to the sturdy features of the phone.

Even though a new Android M has been introduced to the public recently, the S6 Active is pre-installed with the Android Lollipop OS version 5.0.2. In line with this, this device runs at high speed with an Exynos 7420 chipset, complemented by a quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 computer and runs on a high quality Mali-T760 graphics processor.

For its memory, although it has no expandable memory options, its pre-installed memory has a 32 GB capacity.

Just like the S6, the Active also has a 16-megapixel camera that could provide to as much as 2988 x 5312 pixels of photos. Other features of the camera include geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, auto HDR, panorama autofocus and an LED flash.

With no words about its official release date for now, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is expected to come out this summer.
