Daytona 500: Danica Patrick Finishes 8th

Danica Patrick made history at the Daytona 500, she finished 8th place and became the first woman to finish in the top 10.

It looked like Patrick would finish a strong third until she got caught up in a wreck while on the last lap.

"I would imagine that pretty much anyone would kick themselves and say what could I have, should I have done to give myself that opportunity to win. I think that's what I was feeling today, was uncertainty as to how I was going to accomplish that."

Patrick said in an interview after the race, I was thinking in the car, 'How am I going to do this?' I didn't know what to do exactly."

Still Patrick's name will appear in the annals of racing history. She was the first woman to win a pole in the Spirit Cup and was the first woman to lead the Daytona 500 when the race began.

Patrick's fans took to Twitter to send the driver so support. Miranda Lambert tweeted "I'm so proud of my girl, she's such a bad ass." Sarah Palin wrote "go Danica go!"

Actor James Franco was at the Race and made the announcement for the drivers to start their engines, but he caused a bit of controversy when he made the call.

Franco announced, "Drivers and Danica, start your engines." Was the actor trying to insult the first lady of Nascar? There were mixed reactions on Twitter.

"Wow James, how's that foot taste in your mouth?" was tweeted by Jeanne Rice. On the opposite side of the argument John Walters writes, "Honestly I think Franco was trying to give Danica props but the way he worded it messed the whole thing up."

Insulted or not you can't take away the accomplishments Danica Patrick has been making in the once male dominated sport of racecar driving.
