Hope Alive For Nina Dobrev's 'The Vampire Diaries' Return; Ex-Boyfriend Ian Somerhalder Says 'Elena Will Resurface At Some Point'

Will Nina Dobrev be back for "The Vampire Diaries?"

Ian Somerhalder teased in an interview with Melty that Elena Gilbert will be return to Mystic Falls at some point.

After all, Elena didn't really die. Instead, she's laying on the coffin in the Salvatore mansion in deep sleep for the next 60 years as a result of a spell.

"The way it was done was great. The way it was done was actually incredible, because it allows people to know that she's still there... she's not dead," Nikki Reed's husband said. "In seventy years or however long Bonnie lives, Elena will resurface at some point, although we'll be very old when that happens."

Nina Dobrev's ex also said that even without Elena, the events at "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 won't lack for excitement.

Ian Somerhalder said,  "We're actually very excited about telling this story. Mystic Falls without Elena Gilbert is going to be very different. We want to go back to that Season 1 and Season 2 of storytelling..."

"I think that the last scene in the last episode that you see is truly a depiction of what this next season's going to be," he added.

In lieu of Nina Dobrev's departure from "The Vampire Diaries," production is looking at adding thre new vampires although there has been no actors cast for the roles just yet, according to the report

According to the casting call, the first two vampires are named Nora and Mary Louise and they are going to be the "first same-sex couple" when "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 comes along.

"The two lovers are both in their mid-twenties and although they don't always see eye to eye, nonetheless share the same murderous tendencies," the report added. "Vampire number three Valerie, also twenty-something, uses her dry humour to compensate for a life filled with pain and abandonment."
