K-Pop Review: SHINee - Dream Girl

"SHINEE'S BACK~"

SM Entertainment's flower boys, SHINee have made a strong comeback for the early half 2013, seeking for their "Dream Girl."

From dominating throughout the years with their talents in the entertainment industry prior to debut, the world recognizes that SHINee is a big force to recon with. With every performance, their level of professionalism also improves as many witnessed in one of their performances.

The recognition SHINee has received, has been shown from the number of awards, sales and hype they rightfully deserved. Ever wonder where all their awards are?

With much delay on this review, I'm kind of surprised on the number of views that the music video recieved in a week. From the time, I (finally) watched the video, it almost reached the 3 million views margin. I would have expected more views but who am I to judge? Even so - good work SHINee.

Without watching the video (with much will power),I'm surprised by the concept in terms of sound for this one. It's a smooth transition from their fourth mini-album, "Sherlock." The jazzy vibe and upbeat trademarks SHINee's sound profile.

As for the photo teasers, I get nervous with SM Entertainment, by like a LOT. It's a big curveball. I'm glad the videos and photos don't really match or there will be trouble.

It's obvious that the album titled, "Chapter 1," SM Entertainment will no doubt release more later in the year, but just on this release only they are back on the charts.

What's even more interesting about the song list is a particular song. Spoiler. It's a brilliant tactic to showcase the upcoming "chapter" release.

The video, I don't know where to begin.

Besides the common SM formula of music videos (where it consists of their artist on a intricate, geometric set; singing, dancing, and walking) there are some interesting points with in the music video. I like the concept of the monochromatic optical illusion-esque colors versus the very vibrant bold colors of "dreamland" and "reality." The camera angles shows dimensions of the sets and gives a whimsical element between dreamland and reality.

Plus there's this play on the frame that "Dream Girl" resides in. Obviously she's just on an elevated part of the imagination (sub-section infatuation.) Even though it makes me laugh that regardless of her cameo in the video, all you saw was her face being censored by an animation of flowers. I find it hilarious. But since she's just a vision of desire, the song doesn't give her a solid identity; only qualities that someone prefers when seeking for a girl/boyfriend.

Answer this question please. Are my eyes deceiving me or a I seeing technical glitches embedded purposely?

For someone who wears prescription grade glasses, it definitely pains my eyes when watching the video over (and over) again. That's my only problem I have with the - oh wait.

I know this is a common thing, but please - who is SHINee's coordinator/wardrobe/stylist for this era? I'm sorry - I had to poke at it or else I'll scream. There are some pieces that are just...leaving me speechless.

Make that two problems.

Besides the song being great and loud, dancing should be up to par. It's one of the major requirements for SHINee. And of course I'm not disappointed. I love the use of the mic stand prop integrated in their choreography. Reason being that the prop has movement around the stage. Between per member the mic stand became an extension of their body. It's not stationary and chucked for it's main purpose.

I give SHINee a good rating. I'll try to attempt to purchase the album for my (small) collection.

Spectacular work! SHINee is definitely back.
