The National Football League Player's Association (NFLPA) has joined efforts to appeal New England Patriots star Tom Brady's suspension over the ongoing deflation scandal, which has been dubbed "Deflategate." 

The NFLPA and the NFL have maintained an open line of communication in recent days in relation to a settlement of his four-game ban, Fox Sports reports. 

Tom Brady filed an appeal to the National Football League (NFL) via the NFL Players Association several months ago, asking for a neutral party to hear the argument.

Although Commissioner Roger Goodwell was selected to rule on the case, the New England Patriots quarterback and the Player's Association are still able to bring the case to federal court, especially if his suspension is maintained.

Brady was officially suspended from the NFL and is expected to be deprived of $2 million in salary earnings if the suspension is maintained, the New York Times reports.

Brady may be suspended from for regular-season matches without pay because of his alleged involvement in the "Deflategate" scandal. The NFL claims Brady, and several other New England Patriots players, were involved in a scheme to improperly deflate footballs during last season's A.F.C. championship game.

Brady's agent, Don Yee, protested the NFL's decision and announced that they would seek an appeal.

"There is no evidence that Tom directed footballs be set at pressures below the allowable limits," Yee said, according to the site.

"In fact, the evidence shows Tom clearly emphasized that footballs be set at pressures within the rules. The Wells report presents significant evidence, however, that the N.F.L. lacks standards or protocols with respect to its handling of footballs prior to games; this is not the fault of Tom or the Patriots."
