"Gran Turismo 7" PS4 release date may come sooner than expected.

Back in March, Breathecast reported that Polyphonic Digital CEO and creator of "Gran Turismo" Kazunori Yamauchi retracted his previous claim and said the much-awaited game won't release this year, revealing that they are still in the process of making the title.

However, he promises that the elusive seventh installment will feature major improvements.

"I doubt we'll be throwing away the standard cars," Yamauchi explained to Eurogamer in last year. "So I think we'll hang on to the archive."

"In the meanwhile, some of those cars we may be able to make into premium cars as they become available - but basically we're more focused on increasing the number of premium cars."

"I think the quality of the sounds in Gran Turismo 6 will be improved, but most of the work will be done in Gran Turismo 7," Yamauchi shared, adding "the high quality of data that we have being rendered on the PS4, I think is going to make an incredible difference."

However, Italian games website Spazio Games (translated by Gamespot) recently caught up with Yamauchi and asked him if the release date of "Gran Turismo 7" for the PS4 would arrive in 2017, to which he responded "People will not wait so much."

Although crtyptic, his statement sparked rumors that the game could arrive as early as next year.

To date, "Gran Turismo 6," the current installment, is the only racing game to get a certification from the FIA for the 3D renderings of international race circuits. To test the accuracy of the tracks, Polyphony Digital is holding special FIA Online events this year.

"It was not until we completed the tests between our track data and the game's track data that we fully appreciated the level of work and attention to detail that goes into the development," said Jacques Berger, FIA's Head of Safety. "It was not just the tracks that have been precisely mapped out, but also the surrounding landscapes such as the run-off areas, grandstands and buildings."
