"Personally, I would like to see the 'Alicization' arc because that's something that hasn't been done." These were the words of producer Shinichiro Kashiwada referring to the story arc for "Sword Art Online" season 3.

He said this during an interview with Anime News Network as well as giving fans an idea of the anime franchise's direction.

"So there are series like 'Uta no Prince Sama' and 'Love Live!' that sell more, while the sales are very important to me, it's really the desire to make something really important and interesting that fans can look forward to watching," Shinichiro said. "This is what's personally important to me."

Fortunately, the anime is in for a long haul as season 3 and 4 are already planned out. In a report by Inquisitr, most (half of 15) of the light novels manga creator Reki Kawahara wrote are focused on the Alicization arc. This means that it is a long-term plot that could cover both "Sword Art Online" season 3 and season 4.

This particular arc will tackle the new game "Underworld," where civilization is not as developed as the previous games, giving it the medieval feel. The new characters are named Eugeo and Alice Schuberg.

The website further added that Eugeo is a mere woodcutter exposed to the corrupt nature of noblemen, while Alice is a master swordsman. The lead heroine of the series, Asuna, will only play a minor role in this story arc.

Meanwhile, When-will.net stated that the projected "Sword Art Online" season 3 release date is on December of 2015 or first half of 2016.

"Possible release date of the 'Sword Art Online' Season 3 is end of 2015. There is a possibility that new episodes can come out even later - in the summer of 2016," as stated in the website.
