Oculus Rift Consumer Version Release Date Leaked As November 2015; Virtual Reality Movie 'Henry' Premieres From Oculus

Oculus Rift Movie And Tech News: Oculus announced that Oculus Rift will be ready to ship to consumers in the first quarter of 2016.

Oculus VR CEO, Palmer Luckey previously said he expects the Oculus Rift consumer version release date to be on Winter 2015.

"Palmer Luckey said the rift would be available by Winter. My sources can confirm that the rift can be bought on November," TechAndPrince reported.

According to Gamenguide the current Crescent Bay prototype may still be improved before it is released. They speculate that it might be upgraded to a new model. Gamenguide reported that the current OLED display will be better than the second development kit's 1080p screen. Crescent Bay will also feature full 360 degree positional tracking and integrated audio.

Gamers and movie fans are anxiously awaiting reality to catch up with Virtual Reality. Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are both introducing Virtual Reality headsets to give gamers a choice, while Oculus Rift leaps ahead in cinema. Oculus debuted its second virtual reality film, the short animation movie, "Henry" on July 28, 2015, in Beverly Hills, Calif.

HTC Vive and the consumer Oculus Rift both claim to offer great steps for the future of gaming.

The sport version of Oculus will be released in 2016. It will have two OLED displays that will bean a resolution of 1080 x 1200 pixels into each eye. The refresh rate will be 90Hz. The headset will support a 100-degree field of view.

VR company Oculus, which was bought by Facebook for about $2 billion last year, premiered their 10-minute short about a lonely hedgehog named Henry at an invite-only event at a private mansion in  Beverly Hills. Guests wore consumer versions of the Oculus Rift headset.

Henry is the second computer-animated virtual reality short to come from Oculus VR's newly founded Story Studio. Oculus Story Studio debuted "Lost" at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

The Oculus character works on the audience's empathy.

According to the co-founders, Oculus/Facebook's first consumer Virtual Reality unit should sell for between $200 and $400, but there has been no official comment from Oculus about the actual unit price.

"Today, we're incredibly excited to announce that the Oculus Rift will be shipping to consumers in Q1 2016, with pre-orders later this year," said Oculus VR in a statement. "The Rift delivers on the dream of consumer VR with compelling content, a full ecosystem, and a fully-integrated hardware/software tech stack designed specifically for virtual reality. It's a system designed by a team of extremely passionate gamers, developers, and engineers to reimagine what gaming can be."

Oculus VR Vice President Nate Mitchell recently called the Rift a "high-end" product that will be priced at more than $200. Mitchell told the press during the Techcrunch Disrupt that the Rift would be priced substantially under $1000.
