Los Angeles Lakers News: Guard Jordan Clarkson Eligible To Play For The Philippines?

Will the breakout rookie from the Los Angeles Lakers, Jordan Clarkson be able to suit up for the Philippines?

It is worth noting that the 2nd team All-Rookie Clarkson is a Fil-Am as his mother is Filipino while his father is an American. A few months ago, the guard praised Filipinos for their love of the game and how much support he gets from the Filipino fans during his first season.

"It's crazy then just seeing the support I have from the Philippines."

The 2nd round pick (46th pick) in the 2014 draft is said to be filing for exemption from the FIBA to don a Gilas Pilipinas jersey in an interview with Joey Ramirez of Lakers.com.

"It definitely would mean a lot," he said. "It's just one of those things you want to do, like how I want to make my city proud and make that country proud as well."

What could possibly make him a huge factor for the Philippines is his size as a point guard and his versatility to play the two.

"I'm a point guard, but I can also play the two because of my size and my ability to score," he said. "I'm very versatile on the floor."

Fortunately, his wish is inching closer from becoming a reality as reports from Spin.ph and Slam Online PH says Clarkson was actually able to secure a passport before the age 16 and he already have it by the time he was 12 years old.

Should he be eligible to play, Rivals stated that he will also provide leadership and NBA experience that will be extremely valuable for the team. Plus, his ability to penetrate easily will be a valuable assets for the shooters of the Gilas team to get their open shots when defenders clog Clarkson in the lane.
