LA Lakers News: Metta World Peace Inching Closer To Signing With Former Team?

Will Laker fans finally see Metta World Peace don a LA Laker jersey once again and reunite with future Hall-of-Famer, Kobe Bryant?

According to a report from Yahoo Sports via Pro Basketball Talk, the Lakers are planning to bring in World Peace, formerly Ron Artest, for a one-year contract.

"The Los Angeles Lakers are discussing the possibility of signing free agent forward Metta World Peace to a one-year contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports," reported Wojnarowski.

"No deal has been agreed upon, but there have been talks between the Lakers and World Peace's representatives, league sources told Yahoo Sports."

Wojnarowski further added that the Lakers organization are still lukewarm on bringing World Peace back but he has been practicing with the Lakers last year that includes 2014 7th overall pick, Julius Randle. The main concern of the franchise is his age but looking past that, what can the Lakers actually get from the physical veteran?

At 35 years-old, Metta World Peace can still contribute to a Laker squad as he brings in toughness and veteran leadership aside from Bryant. However, should the Lakers proceed in signing World Peace, this signals another year of mediocrity for the Lakers per Bleacher Report.

"Critics will view this as another sign the Lakers will be mired in mediocrity in 2015-16. According to Basketball-Reference.com, World Peace hasn't had a positive net rating since the 2009-10 season, and he hasn't had a PER above 15.0 -the league average-since 2008-09," as stated in the website.

Should the Lakers sign Metta World Peace? Will he be a key acquisition to help the squad make the playoffs? Stay tuned.
