Detroit Pistons News: Brandon Jennings ‘Okay’ With Being Reggie Jackson’s Back-up

The Detroit Pistons will be an interesting team to watch once the 2015-2016 NBA season officially begins.

Not only will fans want to see the development of Andre Drummond and KCP among others, the dark horse rookie Stanley Johnson, but one that fans should keep watch on is team chemistry especially that two budding stars are vying for the starting position, Brandon Jennings and Reggie Jackson.

It is worth noting that the Pistons just signed Reggie Jackson to a five-year, $80 Million contract this off-season and this means the Pistons see him as their cornerstone at the point guard position.

So where does that leave Brandon Jennings? The point guard said that he is willing to step aside and be the sixth man for the team in a podcast interview with Jabari Young and Vincent Goodwill of Comcast SportsNet.

"Bringing in Reggie Jackson was smart," Jennings said. "I'm supposed to be out, really, for nine months, and they need a point guard."

For Jennings, his priorities is getting back to full health and just have fun playing basketball again.

"My main thing is just to get healthy. Hey, if I have to come off the bench and be the sixth man or whatever, I'm fine with that. Man, I just want to play basketball again. I just want to get back on the court and have fun."

Asked when is his return, he said, "Basically, I'm just taking my time," Jennings said. "I'm going to come back when I'm ready."

"I don't know if I'll be ready for training camp. I don't know for sure. But I'm definitely going to take my time through training camp and also through the preseason. I probably won't be back to myself until at least around December. That's a for sure."

Lastly, Jennings said that despite his injury, he is not sitting idly as he is looking at tapes of great players and trying to get some new moves from them.

"I actually had time to sit back, and I really started studying other players' games," Jennings said. "I got this highlight tape on Kenny Anderson, Tim Hardaway, and I've been studying a lot on James Harden lately, how he just gets to the free throw line easily."
