'Furious 8' Producer Talks About Continuing Series After Paul Walker's Death; Says 'It's A Huge Challenge'

"Furious 8" producer Neal H. Moritz talks about how the series will continue after Paul Walker's death.

This year's "Furious 7" proved to be the franchise's most challenging movie when cast mainstay Paul Walker tragically died in a car accident mid-way throught the movie's production. Yet, the film became the highest-grossing installment in the series, breaking the $1 billion mark in box office earnings.

Speaking with Screen Rant, Moritz revealed how the creative team plans on moving forward after Paul Walker's death.

"We're trying to do what we always do, which is try to come at it from a character point of view and figure out where the characters would go from here," he said. "I think the thing that's made The Fast and the Furious special is obviously we have incredible action and so on.

"But the thing that people really relate to the most is the characters. We're lucky that we have a lot of great characters. Unfortunately, we don't have Paul anymore. His character... has moved on."

"But we feel like there's a lot still to be mined," Moritz added. "That's where we'restarting. We're really talking about the characters, where they all sit right now. It's a huge challenge."

Vin Diesel, however, mentioned that a certain "Furious 7" cast member will return in the next film.

"Kurt Russell was the perfect person to introduce in 7 to play out the eighth storyline that everyone is going to go crazy on," Diesel told Extra (via Metro UK) back in 2013.

Other series stars expected to appear in "Furious 8" are Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Ludacris as Tej and Jason Statham as Ian Shaw. It is still uncertain if Jordana Brewster, Walker's on-screen wife in the series, will return for the upcoming sequel.
