Casey Kasem’s Tragic Death Inspires Daughter To Build Foundation; Group Pushes For Family Rights

Casey Kasem's tragic death has inspired his daughter to build a foundation that pushes for family rights.

According to a report from My North West, Kerri Kasem is still devastated with Casey Kasem's death in June of last year. The 36-year-old media personality and her family were prevented by the late radio star's second wife, Jean Kasem, from seeing their father before and after he died from Lewy Body Dementia.

Kerri Kasem insists that her father's death was aggravated by Jean Kasem's neglect. She believes her stepmother did not take care of their ailing father and kept his children away in order to not be caught.

"It was horrible, but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't do everything I could to save him and to see him again," Kerri Kasem recalled.

"We could not save him. We did everything to save my father."

CNN reported about how Jean Kasem was cleared from elder abuse charges filed by the first family of the "American Top 40" host. Since then, the frustrating ordeal that Kerri Kasem and her family went through has motivated her to form the Kasem Cares Foundation.

The organization helps families who are kept away from ailing loved ones. The group also aims to prevent physical and emotional abuse, or even theft.

"I know what people across the country are going through, and that helpless, hopeless, angry feeling of being told you'll never see your parent again," she said.

"It's horrific. I had to do something about it."

Contrary to Kerri Kasem's claims, Jean Kasem's camp previously explained that Casey Kasem's adult children from his first marriage are the ones responsible for his tragic death.

My News LA reported that a doctor pointed out how Casey Kasem's condition worsened when Kerri Kasem's group transferred him from his home to a hospital.

"It is my opinion that Casey's condition deteriorated because of the emotional distress and the physical stress of transferring him from Silverdale to Gig Harbor," a doctor detailed.

According to Santa Monica Mirror, Jean Kasem's daughter even threw elder abuse allegations back at her father's first family.

"My dad suffered," Liberty Kasem said. "Nobody should be treated like that. He's not an animal."

"I'm going to have justice for my dad," she said.
