Barbara Walters To Retire In 2014, A Source Says

After more than five decades of reporting, Barbara Walters will reportedly retire in 2014.

Reuters reported that a source said Walters is planning to announce her retirement within the next few weeks.

"It was very much her decision. I think she will best explain it herself," the source told Reuters.

Walters suffered a series of health issues recently. She was hospitalized in January after fainting and hitting her head, and then came down with the chicken pox.

The 83-year-old anchor from Boston was an anchor on the "Today Show" for 15 years. She started there in 1961.

One of her more famous roles came as the host of "20/20," when for 20 years, she interviewed some of the most famous and important people in the world. Some of the interviewees included Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein and every U.S. President during from 1984-2004.

She went on to create "The View," which is a roundtable of well-known women, who give their perspective on specific topics. Walters was one of the panelist for the afternoon show.

Walters has won Daytime Emmys and Primetime Emmy Awards during her career. In 2009, Walters was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 30th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards at New York City's Lincoln Center.
